Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Associate Degree in Science Related Field required for minimum qualifications.
• ASCP or equivalent Phlebotomy Certification required.
• Six months phlebotomy experience in an acute care setting required.

Responsibilities

• Verifies test requisitions by comparing orders with clinical documentation and nursing workflows.
• Verifies patient identity and applies accurate specimen labeling.
• Performs blood specimen collection using venipuncture, heel sticks, and other techniques across inpatient units.
• Maintains specimen integrity by following aseptic technique and infection control standards.
• Responds to codes and traumas to obtain specimens rapidly and accurately.
• Performs EKGs and transmits results to support emergent care needs.
• Prioritizes and organizes workload across inpatient units with fluctuating patient volumes.
• Collaborates with nursing, physicians, and laboratory staff to support timely diagnostics.
• Maintains a safe and compliant work environment per policies and regulations.
• Resolves unusual test orders by coordinating with providers and lab staff.
