General Summary
- Must be proficient in all Pharmacy Technician I, Competency 1 Duties/ Knowledge/ Skills/ Ability.
- Receives pharmaceuticals, maintains proper inventory levels, and complies with drug storage and accountability regulations according to hospital and state guidelines. Performs related pharmacy duties and assists with delivering and picking up medications and related items to and from patient care areas.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following statements describe the general nature and level of work for this role. They are not an exhaustive list of all duties.
- Packages or selects products, labels medications into unit doses for pharmacist approval, and fills drug supply requests as instructed.
- Processes prescriptions according to protocol, including data entry of patient and insurance information, verification, and dispensing.
- Delivers and retrieves pharmacy documents and medications across departments and patient care areas, including automated dispensing cabinets.
- Maintains knowledge of medical informatics systems, order-entry, and automated dispensing devices.
- Prepares and verifies controlled substances orders, maintains inventories, and manages returns and documentation per policy.
- Ensures appropriate inventory levels of medications and supplies, tracks stock, and handles shortages or discrepancies.
- Retrieves and disposes of expired medications, replenishes stock, and processes recalls as needed.
- Maintains compliance with safety, security, and environmental standards, including proper handling of hazardous substances.
- Assists in equipment maintenance, attends training, and follows departmental policies and procedures.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Maryland Board of Pharmacy registration required.
- Completion of an approved Pharmacy Technician Training Program preferred.
- National Pharmacy Technician Certification within 6 months preferred.
- Ability to perform mathematical operations, follow instructions, learn pharmacy software, and lift up to 40 lbs. as needed.
- Effective communication skills and knowledge of insurance and retail pharmacy software are necessary.
