General Summary

Under general supervision, fills orders for unit doses, pre-packaged pharmaceuticals, intravenous admixtures, controlled substances, floor stock, supplemental medications, emergency kits, and general stock. Maintains proper levels of pharmaceutical supplies, instruments, and equipment. Performs related pharmacy duties such as drug product recalls and pharmacy area inspections. Delivers and picks up medications and related items to and from patient care areas. Assists with training less experienced techs in their assigned areas.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following statements describe the general nature and level of work performed. They are not exhaustive of all duties.

Assist in training new or less experienced employees.

Perform monthly medication expiration audits at satellite locations.

Assist with safety audits and inspections in patient medication areas.

Prepare and dispense medication orders for inpatient and outpatient populations, including packaging and labeling medications for pharmacist approval, and entering orders into the pharmacy system under supervision.

Prepare sterile intravenous medications using aseptic techniques.

Handle controlled substances, verify inventories, and perform DEA-related documentation and audits.

Return re-usable medications and supplies appropriately.

Maintain inventory levels, track stock, and resolve discrepancies with vendors.

Handle medication recalls and ensure cleanliness and organization of the pharmacy.

Generate reports from pharmacy databases and respond to department requests.

Adhere to safety, environmental, and infection control standards, including proper handling of hazardous substances.

Assist with equipment maintenance and participate in training and hiring processes.

Attend educational programs for professional growth.

Meet minimum qualifications: high school diploma, completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program, Maryland BOP registration, IV training certification, and three years of experience. Must perform mathematical operations and lift up to 40 lbs.

Compensation includes a pay range of $19.85-$28, shift differentials, and a sign-on bonus of up to $1200.
