Job summary

Position Overview

Inpatient Pharmacy Technician (PRN), Pharmacy Department.

General Description

Under direct supervision, performs tasks involved in preparation and distribution of medications checked by a licensed pharmacist.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Place properly packaged medication in labeled containers after verified order entry by a Doctor of Pharmacy.
  • Transport completed medication orders to designated pick-up sites as needed.
  • Refill patient medication cassettes.
  • Participate in restocking of automated dispensing machines subject to verification by a Doctor of Pharmacy and file reports as needed.
  • Prepare IV admixtures and document work.
  • Deliver IV fluids to patient care areas and retrieve unused or unneeded IV fluids for return to the pharmacy unit.
  • Fill requests for floor stock medications and document completion of order.
  • Assist in keeping a log of medications and supplies that need to be reordered.
  • Participate in debit/credit routines for pharmacy charges to help ensure the patient receives a timely and accurate bill.
  • Assist in receiving, checking in, and shelving medications when received from vendors.
  • Assist in the stock replenishment of decentralized/satellite pharmacy units as requested.
  • Rotate stock as needed to reduce outdating.
  • Maintain IV room/preparation area stock of IV base fluids and additives.
  • Rotate stock consistently to avoid outdating.
  • File patient‑specific physician orders.
  • Prepare verification of use forms, drug supply, and maintain a PC‑based inventory database for Controlled Dangerous Substances.
  • Participate in daily physical count and report unreconciled pharmacy stock discrepancies to the Pharmacy Supervisor or Director immediately.
General Responsibilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience: 0–3 years of experience.
  • License: Permit as a Pharmacy Technician by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy within the first six weeks after placement.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of general science and mathematics.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations.
  • Good interpersonal skills for developing effective working relationships with staff and coworkers.
  • Good computer skills.
