Job summary

OU Health is seeking a Pharmacy Intern PRN to support the Pharmacy Department in Oklahoma City. Under direct supervision, you will review and fill drug orders, maintain patient medication profiles, and contribute to clinical interventions with healthcare teams.

Responsibilities include evaluating orders for safety and appropriateness, preparing IV admixtures with aseptic technique, and ensuring accurate documentation.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in an accredited college of pharmacy with internship eligibility
  • Current Intern Permit from the Oklahoma Board of Pharmacy or enrollment proof to obtain permit within two months of hire
  • NABPLEX readiness or equivalent licensure pathway as applicable

Job Description

General Description: Under direct supervision, reviews and fills drug orders utilizing a copy of the physician’s order to create and maintain patient medication profiles.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Reviews and assesses medication/IV orders for, but not limited to drug interactions, drug admixture incompatibilities
  • Reviews medication/IV orders for appropriateness based on; but not limited to age, expectations of patient/family and other health care providers
  • Provides clinical interventions through communication with physicians, nurses and other health care professionals and patients
  • Prepares intravenous admixtures/other sterile products under lamina flow hood utilizing aseptic technique 100% of the time
General Responsibilities

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Currently enrolled and in good standing with an accredited college of pharmacy approved by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy, graduated from an accredited college of pharmacy with registration pending, or in the process of satisfying internship requirements for foreign graduates taking the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NABPLEX).
  • Experience: None.
  • License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Current Intern Permit issued by the Oklahoma Board of Pharmacy OR proof of recent enrollment in one of the two Oklahoma colleges of pharmacy to confirm eligibility AND obtain an Oklahoma Board of Pharmacy Intern Permit within two months of the hire date into the intern position.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the principles and procedures associated with pharmacology.
  • Good communication skills along with the ability to translate technical information into terms the general public can understand.
  • Subsequent to orientation/training, must be proficient in intravenous admixture skills and good computer skills
