Job summary

University of California - Los Angeles Health is seeking a Pharmacy Technician I/II to support inpatient operations. You will assist with drug distribution, IV and chemotherapy compounding, and maintain Pyxis inventory under supervision.

Ideal candidates have a California Pharmacy Technician license, inpatient pharmacy experience, and strong math, drug knowledge, aseptic technique, and computer order-entry skills.

Qualifications

• CA Pharmacy Technician license.
• 2 years of inpatient pharmacy experience (preferred).
• Ability to accurately perform pharmaceutical calculations.
• Knowledge of pharmaceutical generic and trade names and their dosage forms, and the ability to cross-reference the most common drugs from memory.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and pharmaceutical abbreviations.
• Skill in preparing intravenous solutions using aseptic technique.
• Ability to work independently and follow-through on assignments with minimal supervision.
• Skill in computer order entry of medication orders as well as other related computer entry tasks and computer report generation.
• Telephone and verbal skills required to communicate clearly and effectively with pharmacists, nurses, physicians and other allied health professionals.
• Ability to compound chemotherapy solution utilizing departmental guidelines for the preparation/distribution of cytotoxic agents.
• Ability to lift 25 lbs and push 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Assist with drug distribution duties, including pre-packaging and Pyxis inventory maintenance.
• IV and chemotherapy sterile compounding and related record keeping.
• Billing, housekeeping and security functions.
• Maintain refrigerator temperature logs and hood cleaning.
• Work under direct supervision in inpatient practice areas.
• Cross-reference common drugs from memory and communicate with pharmacists and nurses.
• Prepare chemotherapy solutions following safety protocols.
• Lift up to 25 lbs and push up to 50 lbs as required.
