Job summary

BJC HealthCare is seeking a dedicated Float Technician to join the Oncology/Infusion Pharmacy team. The role covers Ambulatory Infusion, Investigational Drug Services, and Specialty Retail in a NCCN/NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center setting. Schedule is Mon-Fri, typically 7 AM–7 PM, with 8-hour shifts.

The role requires licensure in Illinois and Missouri, and involves cross-coverage of multiple technician competencies under supervision of a staff pharmacist.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2-5 years of experience in pharmacy technician roles.
• State Board Pharmacy Registration and Pharmacy Tech Certification required.

Responsibilities

• Maintains quality assurance standards and required documentation.
• Assists in the preparation of medication orders, workflow management and non-sterile compounding.
• Supports inventory activities including storage, ordering, rotating, beyond use dating, and cleanliness.
• Assumes primary responsibility for a specific task or area of specialty, including training, system maintenance and process improvement.
• Pursues proficiency in preparation of complex sterile compounds and expands responsibilities.
• Performs multiple technician responsibilities across the pharmacy or focuses on a specialty area with related system/automation responsibilities.

Additional Information About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and versatile Float Technician to join our Oncology/Infusion Pharmacy team. The individual will play a crucial role in three primary workflows at a NCCN/NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center: Ambulatory Infusion, Investigational Drug Services, and Specialty Retail. The working schedule is Monday through Friday with hours of operation typically from 7 AM to 7 PM.

This position requires a technician licensed in both Illinois and Missouri

• Mon-Fri Days

Role Purpose

The Pharmacy Technician - Inpatient 3, under the direct supervision a of staff pharmacist and according to standard procedures, provides cross coverage for multiple technician competencies or responsibilities within a focus area. This position serves as a department resource to answer questions and assists in resolving more complex issues. This position's responsibilities may include preparing medication orders, assisting in dispensing and transporting medications, conducting complex sterile and/or non-sterile compounding, inventory management, training, the use of various automated/electronic systems, and maintaining the required documentation & records.

Responsibilities

• Maintains quality assurance standards and required documentation; maintains regulatory cleanliness compliance.


• Assists in the preparation of medication orders, to include workflow management, basic preparation & dispensing, and non-sterile compounding.


• Supports various inventory activities, to include inventory storage, ordering, rotating, beyond use dating, and cleanliness.


• Assumes primary responsibility for a specific task, function or area of specialty, to include training, system maintenance, inventory management, workflow, process improvement, as well as use of electronic/automated systems.


• Pursues proficiency in the preparation of complex sterile compounds; seeks out other advanced skills and/or additional responsibilities.


• Performs multiple technician responsibilities across the pharmacy or assumes primary responsibility for a focus area, which includes training, system maintenance, inventory management, workflow, process improvement, and proficiency in associated electronic/automated systems; focus areas could also include complex sterile or non-sterile compounding, quality assurance inspections, repackaging, system and automation maintenance, and process/policy improvement.
