Job summary

University of Iowa Health Care in Iowa City is seeking a part-time Patient Care Technician to support nursing staff in both in-patient and out-patient care areas on the downtown campus. You will assist with vital signs, aseptic tasks, and patient comfort, while maintaining accurate records and collaborating with the care team.

The role requires attention to detail, strong communication, and basic medical knowledge.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and follow instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, family and staff.
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
• Knowledge of sanitation and health hazards.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, instruments and supplies.

Responsibilities

• Independently obtain and record vital signs.
• Carry out aseptic procedures and assist with nursing tasks.
• Perform basic diagnostic/therapeutic procedures as directed.
• Assist with admissions, transfers and discharges.
• Provide for patient comfort and personal hygiene.
• Stock and maintain patient rooms and units.
• Report pertinent information to the nurse in charge.
• Participate in nursing care conferences.
