Job summary

University of Maryland Medical Center is seeking a compassionate Nurse Practitioner to join the inpatient Palliative Care team in a high-acuity academic medical center. The NP will support symptom management, goals-of-care discussions, advance care planning, and patient/family support while collaborating with physicians, nursing staff, social work, chaplaincy, and consulting services.

Qualifications

• Master’s or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
• Nurse Practitioner licensed in the state of Maryland.
• National board certification required.
• DEA and CDS registration preferred or eligible.
• Minimum 2 years nurse practitioner experience; must have at least 2 years of palliative experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide inpatient palliative care consultations and follow-up care
• Provide compassionate and sensitive support and communication with patients, families, and health care teams regarding terminal illness and disease processes
• In-depth understanding of palliative care principles, hospice philosophy, hospice eligibility and end of life care
• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop treatment plans
• Assist with symptom management and pain management strategies
• Facilitate goals-of-care and advance care planning discussions
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
• Support patients and families through complex medical decision-making
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record
• Knowledgeable on palliative and hospice quality measures
