Qualifications

  • 3+ years in acute hospital coding required.
  • 2+ years of experience in adult education required.
  • Multiple coding certifications required.

  • Conduct learning needs assessments and program evaluations.
  • Develop and design educational programs.
  • Deliver education and act as a subject matter expert.

Inpatient / Outpatient Coding Educator

Work location: Remote

Work hours: Monday through Friday, generally 8:00 am to 4:30 pm but some flexibility on hours

Here’s What You Need

Education

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management or other related field REQUIRED
  2. Associate's Degree in Health Information Management or other related field REQUIRED
  3. Master's Degree in Health Information Management or other related field preferred

Experience

  1. 3 Years Experience in acute hospital coding (inpatient, outpatient or combined) REQUIRED
  2. 2 Years Experience providing formal education in adult learning REQUIRED
  3. 2 Years Electronic health record and chart experience preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  1. RHIA - Registered Health Information Administrator Upon Hire REQUIRED
  2. RHIT - Registered Health Information Technician Upon Hire REQUIRED
  3. CCS - Certified Coding Specialist Upon Hire REQUIRED
  4. COC - Certified Outpatient Coder Upon Hire REQUIRED
  5. CPC - Certified Professional Coder Upon Hire REQUIRED
  6. CCS-P - Certified Coding Specialist - Physician-based Upon Hire REQUIRED
  7. Other CCDS, CDIP Upon Hire REQUIRED

Skills

  1. Advanced knowledge of coding guidelines, coding clinics and coding conventions.
  2. Advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM, PCS and CPT.
  3. Knowledge in APC and DRG methodologies and all regulatory/payor requirements as they relate to coding.
  4. Excellent communication skills and professional demeanor.
  5. Proficient computer skills to include Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint.
  6. Ability to coordinate projects.
  7. Demonstrated competency in teaching/learning process.
