Job summary

Baton Rouge General Medical Center is seeking compassionate, reliable Mental Health Technicians (MHTs) to join our inpatient behavioral health unit. As an essential part of the care team, you'll provide direct patient support, help maintain a therapeutic environment and play a key role in the healing process for individuals facing mental health challenges.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or mental health training preferred.
• Prior experience in behavioral health, residential care, or related field is a plus.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and work effectively with a diverse population.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced, team-focused inpatient environment.
• CPR and MOAB certification preferred or willing to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with daily living activities and personal care.
• Support patients in managing emotions and behaviors safely.
• Observe, document, and report patient behaviors and progress.
• Facilitate or assist with therapeutic activities and group sessions.
• Respond to crisis situations using verbal de-escalation and safety protocols.
• Collaborate with nurses, social workers, and clinicians to ensure quality care.
