Job summary

Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, VA is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for an inpatient surgical step-down unit located at 1906 Belleview Ave SE. The unit handles telemetry care for general and bariatric surgery patients, along with neuro/trauma, hospitalist/medicine, and urology cases.

The LPN works under the direction of a registered nurse or physician, partnering with the RN in all aspects of patient care and care planning to support patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.
• Knowledge of growth and development principles; ability to collect and interpret patient data.
• Ability to provide care per departmental policies and procedures.
• Ability to communicate with team members and patients.

Responsibilities

• Collect data, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
• Participate in nursing process for patients of all ages.
• Communicate with team members, ancillary departments, and physicians.
• Develop the patient database and interdisciplinary plan of care.
• Identify educational needs of patients and families and incorporate education into the plan of care.
• Apply knowledge of growth and development to patient care.
• Implement prescribed therapeutic plans and procedures.
• Administer prescribed medication.
• Advocate for patients and protect patient rights.
• Contribute to performance improvement activities.
