Job summary

Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, VA is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for an inpatient surgical step-down unit located at 1906 Belleview Ave SE. The unit handles telemetry care for general and bariatric surgery patients, along with neuro/trauma, hospitalist/medicine, and urology cases.

The LPN works under the direction of a registered nurse or physician, partnering with the RN in all aspects of patient care and care planning to support patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.
• Knowledge of growth and development principles; ability to collect and interpret patient data.
• Ability to provide care per departmental policies and procedures.

Job Overview

We are seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for an inpatient surgical step‑down unit located at 1906 Belleview Ave SE. The unit handles telemetry PCU care for general and bariatric surgery patients, along with neuro/trauma, hospitalist/medicine, and urology cases. The LPN works under the direction of a registered nurse or physician and partners with the RN in all aspects of patient care.

Responsibilities

The LPN will:

• Collect data, plan, implement, and evaluate patient/resident care.
• Participate in the nursing process for patients of all ages.
• Communicate with team members, ancillary departments, and physicians.
• Develop the patient/resident database and interdisciplinary plan of care.
• Identify educational needs of patients, families, and caregivers and incorporate education into the plan of care.
• Apply knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients and residents.
• Implement prescribed therapeutic treatment plans and procedures.
• Administer prescribed medication to patients or residents.
• Advocate for patients, protect patient rights, and provide psychological, social, and cultural support.
• Contribute to performance improvement activities and support service area, facility, and organization initiatives.
• Assist with orientation and career development of others and assign tasks as needed.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.
• Experience: None.
• Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Licensed to practice practical nursing in the state of Virginia.
• In psychiatry and behavioral health: Completed de‑escalation training within four months of hire and maintain thereafter.
• Other minimum qualifications: Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development principles, ability to collect and interpret patient data, and the ability to provide care per departmental policies and procedures.

Compensation

Salary range: $23.97 – $35.96 per hour. This range does not include benefits or pension plan.
