Qualifications

• Minimum 1–2 years inpatient medical records coding experience.
• Current CCS/CCS-P or CPC certification.
• High school diploma; associate/bachelor in HIM may substitute for experience.

Responsibilities

• Code inpatient records using ICD coding for diagnoses and procedures.
• Ensure DRG accuracy by ranking diagnoses correctly.
• Clarify information with hospital staff as needed.
• Enter final diagnostic codes and narratives into the grouper system.
• Provide information to staff and respond to inquiries about medical documentation and DRGs.
• Abstract information from records to compile reports and statistics.
