Job summary

BJC HealthCare is seeking an Inpatient II Coder for a PRN role in Missouri. You will abstract and code inpatient diagnoses and procedures in line with coding conventions and regulatory guidelines.

Ideal candidates have 2–5 years of inpatient coding experience and hold CCS, RHIA, or RHIT certification. The role requires collaboration with CDI, HIM Operations and other departments to ensure coding accuracy and documentation integrity.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years of inpatient coding experience required.
• CCS, RHIA, or RHIT certification required.
• Knowledge of coding conventions and regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Accurately abstracts data elements as required.
• Stays current of changes in coding conventions, regulatory guidelines, code updates and BJC coding guidance.
• Reviews and analyzes patient encounters for compliant coding; queries provider for clarification as needed.
• Assigns codes in a timely manner; interprets provider documentation for appropriate DRG assignment.
• Collaborates with leadership, colleagues and other departments to ensure integrity of the medical record and coding compliance.
