Job summary

FusionHCR is seeking an experienced Inpatient Coder to provide expert coding of inpatient medical records that supports accurate reimbursement, clinical data integrity, research, utilization review, and regulatory reporting. The role requires strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS, MS-DRG, and related guidelines.

The coder will review complex records, identify opportunities for improvement, monitor trends, and address denials while ensuring compliance with HIPAA and hospital policies.

Qualifications

• Must hold one of: CCS or RHIA certification.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years inpatient coding experience in an acute-care hospital setting.
• Knowledge of inpatient coding guidelines and reimbursement methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Accurately code and abstract inpatient medical records while meeting established quality and productivity standards.
• Review medical documentation for completeness, consistency, and coding accuracy.
• Identify coding discrepancies, trends, and opportunities for improvement.
• Review coding-related denials and perform appropriate follow-up.
• Perform data collection, manipulation, retrieval, and analysis.
• Run queries and prepare technical reports.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient and organizational information.
• Work independently with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Communicate coding issues, findings, and recommendations to stakeholders.
• Establish and maintain relationships across departments.
