Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Professional coding certification required (CCA/CCS/CCS-P/CPC/RHIT/RHIA).
• IP DRG experience and 1-3 years coding experience (3-5 years preferred).
• Strong Microsoft Office skills and familiarity with medical terminology.
• Familiarity with appeals and healthcare business office experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform DRG validation reviews in response to third-party audits.
• Analyze medical records to obtain supporting documentation for billed codes and draft appeal letters.
• Make decisions to update DRGs or add diagnosed codes based on clinical reviews.
• Assign DRG audits to nurse auditors when coding criteria require it and provide analysis to the appeals department.
