Description

JOB SUMMARY
Under moderate supervision, this role is primarily responsible for reviewing and analyzing inpatient medical record documentation. Based on official coding guidelines, apply ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS diagnosis and procedure codes to ensure appropriate reimbursement and compliance with regulatory coding requirements for inpatient services in an acute care hospital setting. The focus is on Medical and Surgical encounters, supporting coding for Diagnostic Radiology, Orthopedic, Spine & Vascular cases, and working with Inpatient Billing and CHIME Edits. Responsibilities include:

  1. Applying extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, clinical disease processes, pharmacology, and diagnostic/procedural terminology to assign diagnosis and procedure codes for all inpatient accounts.
  2. Analyzing medical records using UHDDS, interpreting documentation, and assigning ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes using designated software, including CAC and encoders, along with coding manuals and references.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing DRG assignments, entering coded information, analyzing DRG groupings, and ensuring correct DRG assignment.
  • Coding all case types, including complex cases, adhering to department policies, guidelines, and ethical standards.
  • Meeting revenue cycle goals, managing coding and edit queues, and reviewing denials and accounts.

Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of inpatient coding experience in a Level 1 acute care setting.
  • CCS certification required.
  • Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and relevant regulations.
  • Understanding of CPT and HCPCS coding is preferred.
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.

Details:

  • Remote position, willing to work EST schedule.
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, flexible start times between 7:00am – 8:30am EST, 8-hour shifts, 40 hours/week.
