Job summary

UChicago Medicine in Chicago, IL is seeking a Staff Clinical Pharmacist for the Inpatient Pharmacy to join a comprehensive academic medical center. This role emphasizes safe, effective medication therapy and collaboration across central and satellite pharmacies and specialty areas.

Responsibilities include reviewing orders, supervising technicians, monitoring drug use criteria, and documenting interventions to improve outcomes and reduce costs.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy.
• Doctor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Pharmacy.
• Eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the state of Illinois (complete licensure within 60 days).
• Completion of an ASHP accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency.
• Clinical pharmacy experience (2–4 years) in a hospital setting preferred (required if no PGY-1 residency).
• Exceptional aptitude or knowledge may be considered in lieu of experience.

Responsibilities

• Ensure accuracy and appropriateness of all medication orders by evaluating drug selection, dose, frequency, safety, and interactions.
• Supervise pharmacy technicians to perform first/missing doses, order entry, STAT delivery, IV therapy coordination.
• Monitor drug use criteria and IV to PO conversion to ensure proper utilization.
• Document clinical interventions to prevent drug-related problems and promote cost-effective therapy.
• Clarify medication orders with physicians and suggest alternatives when appropriate; report adverse drug reactions.
• Assist in orientation and training of new personnel.

Education

ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy

Doctor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Pharmacy

Eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in Illinois (within 60 days)

ASHP-accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency

Clinical pharmacy experience (2–4 years) in a hospital setting
