Job summary

Broadlawns Medical Center seeks a Healthcare Technician to assist nurses in basic patient care in an acute care setting. You will observe and report patient conditions, respond to emergencies with BLS interventions, and perform routine nursing tasks under RN supervision.

You will help with documentation in the EMR, coordinate with care teams, and support admissions, discharges, and transport while upholding infection prevention standards and patient safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of CNA course (75 hours minimum) or an approved workplace- or military-based training program for HCT duties.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification while employed.

Responsibilities

• Provides basic care to patients of all ages under supervision of the RN or Provider.
• Communicates patient observations and information related to plan of care to the RN or Provider.
• Responds to medical emergencies with initial BLS interventions and de-escalation techniques.
• Performs unit-specific skills such as vitals, specimen collection, POC testing, and venipuncture.
• Maintains awareness of escalating or dangerous behavior and ensures safety.
• Prepares for patient care by answering phones and restocking supplies.
• Conducts equipment checks and maintains emergency carts.
• Assists in admissions and discharges for patients of all ages.
• Adheres to Infection Prevention standards including Standard Precautions.
• Records information in the EMR according to standards.
• Keeps nursing unit clean and safe, follows safety rules.
• Transports patients for tests or treatments as needed.
• Assists in identifying patient and family needs based on age data.
• Implements provider orders as directed by the RN or Provider.
• Assists health care team with exams or procedures within job scope.
• Supports other duties as assigned.
