Job summary

The role focuses on planning/leading activities such as leisure skills and relaxation, engaging patients to build social skills and independence while adhering to safety and professional standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field.
• 3+ years experience in recreation in a healthcare setting.
• CTRS or related national certification, or in process.
• CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification.
• First aid may be required based on state/facility requirements.

Responsibilities

• Complete activity assessment through observation and interviews to inform treatment plans.
• Plan, organize, direct and implement activities within the program to progress treatment goals.
• Lead activities including leisure skills, education and awareness.
• Facilitate sessions to improve mental and physical well-being.
• Instruct patients in activities such as sports, dance, music, art or relaxation techniques.
• Develop interventions to meet patient needs and goals.
• Engage patients in therapeutic activities and community outings.
• Help patients develop social skills for independence.
• Modify activities for specific groups.
• Maintain a positive, empathetic and professional attitude; address complaints.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
