Job summary

Binghamton University is seeking an Instructional Support Assistant for the Innovative Simulation and Practice Center (ISPC) at the Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences. This 12-month, full-time position requires balancing technical skill with creative thinking and strong interpersonal abilities.

Salary ranges from $45,372 to $50,000, with possible evening or weekend shifts. Associates degree or higher and proficiency with Windows/Apple hardware, cameras and mics are required;

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Maintain current knowledge of simulation equipment catalogs and manuals.
  • Program simulators according to scenario specifications.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment including mannequins, computers, AV and recording gear.
  • Role play as patient for student activities.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies for simulation activities.
  • Set up and take down simulation activities (may involve rapid turnover).
  • Retrieve and unpack supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain organization of storage areas.
  • Upkeep of ISPC areas.
  • Support ISPC staff; prepare correspondence and documents.
  • Coordinate and plan special events; welcome visitors and vendors.

Job Description

Budget Title: Instructional Support Assistant (SL-1)

Salary: $45,372 - $50,000

Simulation assistants will provide technical and mechanical support for the Innovative Simulation and Practice Center at the Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences. This position is a 12-month, full-time placement. Occasional evening or weekend shifts may be required.

To be most effective, assistants must balance technological prowess, creative thinking and interpersonal skills.

Simulation Responsibilities
  • Maintains current knowledge of simulation/lab equipment catalogs and operation manuals
  • Programming of simulators according to scenario specifications
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain all equipment including mannequins, computers, audio-visual and recording equipment
  • Role play as patient for student activities
  • Maintain inventory of supplies needed for simulation activities
  • Set up and take down of simulation activities
    • May involve rapid turnover of simulation lab set up
Practice Lab Responsibilities
  • Retrieve and unpack supplies and equipment
  • Maintain organization of all storage areas
  • Upkeep of ISPC areas
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Support ISPC staff as needed
  • Preparation of correspondence
  • Gathering information, preparing and editing documents
  • Coordinating and planning special events
  • Welcoming ISPC visitors and vendors
Requirements
  • Associates Degree (or higher)
  • Proficiency with hardware such as Windows and Apple computers, video cameras and microphones
  • Willingness to role play as a standardized patient
  • Ability to work collaboratively and have flexible hours, as activities may be scheduled outside normal business hours
  • Organizational skills
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to master proprietary software quickly
  • Physical ability to lift, move, maintain and set up computer, audio-visual and simulation lab equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. without assistance
Preferred
  • Associate's degree (or higher) in a healthcare, IT or a communications related field
  • Experience working in information technology or a healthcare simulation facilityDemonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Suite
