Qualifications

• Experience teaching middle grades (6-8) in a progressive, project-based setting.
• Strong subject-area background; NC licensure or readiness to obtain licensure.
• Reader, writer, critical thinker with awareness of current events to create meaningful units.
• Ability to use a variety of assessment methods and data to inform instruction.
• Excellent teamwork, collaboration, and willingness to reflect and grow.
• Commitment to serving a diverse student population with high energy and humor.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with grade-level colleagues to craft interdisciplinary projects and learning experiences.
• Employ varied teaching methodologies, including protocols, simulations, workshops, seminars, and cooperative learning.
• Create and implement rigorous, inquiry-based lessons aligned to standards.
• Use formative and summative assessments to track student progress and guide instruction.
• Differentiate support to meet diverse learning needs and accommodations as needed.
• Coordinate and participate in day and overnight fieldwork including camping trips.
• Integrate work with external partners during fieldwork or via video/conferencing.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and feedback cycles.
• Contribute to school-wide positive behavioral systems and classroom culture.
• Maintain regular communication with families about performance and progress.
• Participate in staff meetings, events, and curriculum development.
