Job summary

Waymo in Mountain View, CA is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to drive real-world hardware solutions across the product lifecycle. You will work on mechanical design to optimize performance, cost, and reliability while collaborating with electrical, manufacturing, vehicle, and industrial design teams.

Ideal candidates hold a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of industry experience, deep CAD proficiency (Catia V6/SolidWorks), and strong GD&T/tolerance analysis.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of industry experience.
• Proficient in Catia V6 and/or SolidWorks for mechanical design.
• Experience designing metal, plastic, and elastomer parts with GD&T and tolerance analysis.
• Ability to apply first-principles physics to structure, thermal, and optical constraints.

Responsibilities

• Create real-world hardware solutions from concept to mass production.
• Mechanical design for performance, cost, reliability including rapid prototyping and thermal considerations.
• Collaborate with electrical, manufacturing, vehicle, and industrial design teams.
• Design for scale with robust parts, tolerance analysis, BOMs, and PLM release processes.
