Job summary

Essex County Vocational School District seeks two 10-month Teachers of Mathematics at Newark Tech for the 2026-27 school year. Under the supervision of the Principal, the incumbent will develop students' mathematical skills and their ability to apply math to practical problems.

Responsibilities include curriculum development, safe and conducive learning environments, lesson planning, teaching real and imaginary numbers, formulas, geometry, and regular assessments.

Qualifications

• Valid New Jersey Teaching Certificate or Certificate of Eligibility
• Demonstrated knowledge of subject specialty and effective teaching methods
• Ability to maintain a positive learning environment
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident status
• Must be resident of New Jersey or residency within one year unless exempted under the law

Responsibilities

• Develops and administers mathematics curriculum consistent with district goals and objectives.
• Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction.
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for mathematics and translates plans into learning experiences.
• Teaches math concepts including real and imaginary numbers, formulas, calculations and geometry.
• Designs activities to demonstrate mathematics in everyday life and problem solving.
• Performs ongoing assessment of student learning and adjusts methods to fit student needs.
• Maintains familiarity with state tests to adapt curriculum for maximum student achievement.
• Encourages parental involvement and communicates effectively with students and parents.
