Job summary

Applied Engineering in Shoreview, MN is seeking a Machine Design Engineer for Advanced Manufacturing. You will design and develop custom machinery and automated systems, creating detailed 3D models and drawings to support fabrication and integration.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure performance, safety, and manufacturability, while supporting prototypes, testing, and continuous improvement of machine designs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
• 2+ years of experience in machine design or automated equipment engineering.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling; SolidWorks strongly preferred.
• Experience in friction stir welding, robotic fixtures, waterjet cutting, drilling/defastening, automated fastening, and sealant dispensing is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop custom machinery and automated systems for advanced manufacturing.
• Engineer mechanical solutions involving friction stir welding, robotic fixtures, waterjet cutting, drilling/defastening, automated fastening, and sealant/adhesive dispensing.
• Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings to support fabrication and integration.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet performance, safety, and manufacturability requirements.
• Support prototype builds, testing, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of machine designs.
• Contribute to equipment specifications, component selection, and design documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
• Work with suppliers and Applied partners.
• Contribute to projects impacting communities in the region.
• Apply skills in a dynamic environment valuing ownership and innovation.
