Job summary

Carney, Sandoe & Associates is seeking a Computer Science Teacher for the 2027-2028 school year at independent schools in the Washington D.C. area. The role covers designing lessons, maintaining CS hardware, and guiding students in CS fundamentals.

You will assess progress, provide timely feedback, and collaborate with families and teachers to support each student’s goals. Strong pedagogy and ongoing professional development are emphasized.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field is required.
• Advanced studies and/or a master’s degree are preferred.
• Deep knowledge of CS concepts and ability to convey to students clearly.
• Experience coaching students to communicate effectively in speech, on the computer, and on the page.

Responsibilities

• Design thoughtful lessons and activities for four CS classes; assignments may vary yearly.
• Maintain computer hardware including 3D printers and robotics.
• Communicate basic programming concepts like iteration and conditionals clearly.
• Help students demonstrate their thinking clearly and systematically.
• Make yourself available outside class for additional help.
• Design formative and summative assessments to measure progress toward mastery.
• Provide timely feedback and grades on written work and tests.
• Collaborate with parents and teachers to support each student’s learning goals.
• Communicate progress and learning goals to students and families at least once per semester.
• Use the LMS to inform students about responsibilities, grades, and expectations.
• Set high expectations for learning and character development.
