Job summary

Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority in Duffield, VA seeks a Counselor to create an environment where inmates maximize rehabilitative options. The role provides leadership to programs, delivers classroom instruction, tests participants, and documents progress.

A Bachelor's Degree in Education, Social Services or related field is required with two years of related experience. Spanish is a plus; knowledge of Virginia Board of Corrections standards helps; may be required to complete law

• May be required to complete and pass law enforcement training.

Responsibilities

• Create an environment that helps inmates maximize rehabilitative options.
• Lead and organize programs, and deliver classroom instruction.
• Test inmates for program eligibility and track progress.
• Develop curriculum and conduct classes using various media.
• Assist inmates with community resources and housing/work placement.
• Interview and classify inmates during intake screening if needed.
