Job summary

ThispositionislocatedintheD.C.DepartmentofCorrections(DOC)undertheEducationProgramsandCaseManagementDivision.ThemissionoftheDOCistoensurepublicsafetyforcitizensoftheDistrict by providing an orderly, safe, secure, and humane environment for the confinement of pretrial detainees and sentenced inmates, while providing meaningful opportunities for community reintegration.

The incumbent in this role is responsible for ensuring the Inmate Grievance Procedure program, to include the Inmate Grievance Advisory Committee, operates according to the departmental policy. The work performed supports the responsibility of the agency to ensure that inmates may seek resolution of complaints within the established DOC Inmate Grievance Procedure (IGP).

Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinatesactivitiesandoperationsassociatedwith the IGP process, including retrieval, distribution, tracking, database entry into Jail andCommunity Correctional System (JACCS) and establishment of response due dates issued to Deputy Directors, Warden, Deputy Wardens, Majors, Managers, and other designated staff, to ensure timely and accountable grievance resolution throughout the agency. Collects Inmate Informal Resolution Complaint (INF), Inmate Formal Grievance (FG), or Deputy Director (DD) Appeals forms from IGP boxes located in each housing unit on every business day (excluding weekends and holidays).

Ensures INFs, FGs, or DD Appeals forms and responses are translated from or into English as necessary, when received in Spanish or other languages, to ensures full access to grievance process for limited English proficient inmates. Reviews all INFs to determine if they are grievable. If the INF is not grievable, completes the Denial of Inmate IGP form and forwards to the inmate with a copy of the INF submitted via DOC In-house Legal mail route. Logs all grievable INF and FG forms into JACCS tracking system and scans documents into Knowledge Lake database, to maintain accurate, up-to-date electronic records used for case tracking, audits, and institutional oversight.

Qualifications and Education

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled. To be creditable, applicants must haveone (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lowergrade level in the line of progression.

The work is performed in anoffice setting within a correctional facility.

Tour of Duty: Monday – Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm

Pay Plan, Series and Grade: CS-0303-07

Promotion Potential: No Known Promotion Potential.

Duration of Appointment: This position is a Career Service – Regular Appointment.

Collective Bargaining: This position may be covered by a collective bargaining agreement. You may be required to pay an agency service fee through payroll deduction.

Position Designation: The incumbent of this position will be subject to enhanced suitability screening pursuant to Chapter 4 of the DC Personnel Regulations, Suitability – Safety Sensitive. This position requires a background check and drug screening; therefore, you may be required to provide information about your criminal history and pass a drug screening in order to be appointed for this position.

TB test will be required for the entry on duty.
