Job summary

FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS seeks an Adult Education Teacher for Jackson Correctional Institution to deliver Adult Basic Education and GED instruction. The role uses a blended instructional model across Math/Science, Reading-Language Arts and Social Studies, and requires planning, supervision and assessment of inmate learners.

The position emphasizes classroom order, student progress counseling, and collaboration with staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university; and
• Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator's Certificate.
• Non-certified applicants must obtain a temporary State of Florida Educator’s Certificate within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Plans, develops and conducts classes in the assigned subject(s) using varied teaching methods.
• Continually evaluates students and administers grades and tests.
• Counsels and advises students regarding program progress and personal concerns.
• Participates in staff meetings and professional development activities.
• Assists in budget preparation and processing purchase requests for the education program.
