Job summary

ADULT EDUCATION TEACHER position with the Florida Department of Corrections, located in Ocala, FL. The incumbent delivers instruction in Math/Science, Reading-Language Arts, and Social Studies through a blended model to adult inmates in a correctional facility.

Requires a bachelor’s degree or higher and Florida educator certification; temporary certification may be allowed with 12-month path to certification.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university; and
• Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator's Certificate.
• Non-certified applicants must obtain a temporary State of Florida Educator’s Certificate within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and conduct classes in assigned subjects, utilizing various teaching techniques.
• Supervise inmates in the class, conduct roll calls and maintain attendance records.
• Evaluate student progress and administer grades and tests.
• Counsel and advise individuals on program progress, behavior, or personal concerns.
• Participate in staff meetings and assist in curriculum changes and professional development.
