Job summary

Kirby Inland Marine Lp is seeking an Inland Deckhand to support the vessel master in safe and efficient operation of our inland pushboats and barges. You will handle lines, perform routine maintenance, and assist with loading and unloading while complying with safety rules.

The role requires basic computer skills and reading/writing English, and may involve extended time away from family. The position includes a 2-for-1 schedule with up to 30 days at a time, a 12-hour shift, and must meet USCG

Qualifications

• Basic computer skills knowledge required.
• 12 months of consecutive work experience preferred.
• High School or GED preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inland Deckhands support the vessel master in safe and efficient operation of Kirby’s boats and barges.
• Attach and remove lines and cables to/from the vessel, barges, docks and locks.
• Handle lines during loading and discharging to adjust for height differences.
• Maintain vessel with scheduled maintenance and housekeeping such as sweeping, washing, rust removal, priming and painting.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the vessel master (e.g., cooking, cleaning).
