Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nursing, Health Education or related field.
  • Two years of public health, education, or injury prevention experience.
  • Ability to analyze trauma data and prepare reports.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

Develops, coordinates and manages all aspects of a comprehensive Trauma Injury Prevention Program for the Prisma Health Trauma Center to meet verification requirements of the American College of Surgeons (ACS).

Essential Functions
  • All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Prisma Health's purpose: Inspire health. Serve with compassion. Be the difference
  • Assesses, plans, develops, implements, evaluates, coordinates, and maintains a relevant and effective injury prevention program.
  • Markets injury prevention program to the public and community partners involved in injury prevention. Establishes relationships and collaborates with community agencies, civic groups, schools, and others on injury prevention initiatives. Maintains current knowledge in injury prevention principles, research, and legislation.
  • Analyzes data from the trauma registry, local, state, national data, and research for the Injury Prevention Program. Establishes and implements programs to regional, community, and institutional needs.
  • Provides injury prevention education. Responds timely to requests for injury prevention education and participates in Prisma Health and community events promoting injury prevention. Builds a coalition of staff with interest in injury prevention to support the injury prevention program, provides education and serves as resource to coalition.
  • Evaluates and acquires established education and program material to determine applicability to program on an annual basis, considering need, effectiveness, cost, etc.
  • Coordinates and participates in training, implementation, and evaluation of Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) and other injury prevention programs mandated by the ACS to meet trauma center verification requirements.
  • Maintains comprehensive records and reports of all injury prevention activities to meet ACS Level I Trauma Center Verification requirements. Provides regular and annual reports that communicate injury prevention data, program effectiveness, financials, etc. to Trauma Program Manager (TPM) and Trauma Medical Director (TMD), Trauma Committees, and Prisma Health.
  • Identifies sources of potential funding for injury prevention programs. Researches and applies for grants to support the Injury Prevention Program. Maintains records and submits documentation to demonstrate compliance with funding requirements for grant or other funding sources.
  • Coordinates the trauma research program, in collaboration with the Trauma Research Director and TPM, to include facilitating regular research meetings, participating and collaborating in trauma research. Leads primary injury prevention research for the trauma program. Collaborates and coordinates with TPM and other educational resources to meet ACS trauma education requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
  • This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.
Minimum Requirements
  • Education - Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Nursing, Health Education or other health related field of study.
  • Experience - Two (2) years in public health, education, or injury prevention

  • If RN, holds a current RN compact/multistate license recognized by the NCSBN Compact State or is licensed to practice as an RN in the state the team member is working.
  • A valid driver's license; an acceptable motor vehicle record, as defined by the Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Chart; and proof of auto insurance.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Proficient computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, database, data entry)
  • Ability to attend and participate in institutional, community and state trauma meetings.
