Job summary

Magna Mechatronics, Mirrors & Lighting is seeking a skilled Process Technician / Mold Setter to setup and operate plastic injection molding equipment in a Michigan facility.

The role requires tool setting experience, EOAT setup, and strong troubleshooting, with the ability to adjust parameters to meet quality specifications.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required; mechanical degree preferred or relevant experience.
• Experience with injection molding processes and tool setting.
• Ability to read blueprints, gauge readings, and interpret process parameters.
• Knowledge of EOAT setup and tool changes.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate plastic injection molding machines.
• Observe and adjust machine parameters to meet specs and reduce defects.
• Prepare first-off to last-off documentation.
• Monitor tool and machine condition; perform maintenance and cleaning.
• Mentor entry level Process Techs and communicate status across shifts.

Combining a deep systems knowledge to develop unique vehicle access experiences, intelligent visions systems and advanced automotive lighting technologies, MML's expertise light the path to innovation, safety and styling.Job Responsibilities:Set up and operate plastic injection molding machines to mold thermoplastic parts.Observe continuous operation of injection molding machines to ensure that parts meet specifications and to detect any machine malfunctions or product defects, making adjustments as necessary.Measure and visually inspect products for surface and dimension defects to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments.Completing first-off – last off documents.Mold installation and start-up, shut-down and removal.Ensure all auxiliary equipment is set to the correct settings per the baselines.Maintain best operating parameters (baselines) for tool and make any adjustments required to cycle the tool automatically. Follow proper deviation process if parameters adjusted outside tolerance. Troubleshooting and understanding the machine functions/setting issues.Monitor tool cleanliness and ensure tool cleaning is conducted as required.Ensure correct raw material is being supplied to the molding equipment, and proper material drying specifications are being followed.Perform maintenance work such as cleaning and oiling machines.Observe machine parameters and gauges to verify consistency of temperatures, pressures, and press-cycle times, etc.Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained.Mentor and train entry level Process Techs.Operate hoists to position mold tools on storage racks, inside press or on floor.Preheat molding tools using specified equipment.Select and install end of arm tooling (EOAT) or other attachments for each operation.Issue work orders for molding equipment or tools as required.Optimize process to reduce scrap and improve throughput.Degate and pack parts as required.Communicate with Process Techs shift to shift, to understand/pass-on, the current status of the operation as well as any operational issues.Review and sign all communications at the beginning of the shift, i.e. Quality Alerts.Perform any other reasonable request by management.Required SkillsCompletion of High School diploma and 2 or 4 year Mechanical degree (Experience can be substituted for Education and Vice Versa).Ability to learn and comprehend basic tool construction.Self-motivated, ability to follow-up on task through to completion.Injection Mold Tool Setting Experience. 1 year min as a die setter.Knowledge of plastic materials and process parameters for injection molding.Certified Overhead Crane Operator.Experience with end of arm tooling (EOAT) set-up.Experience with hand tools and torque wrenches.Ability to work independently or as part of a team.Mechanical and electrical aptitude (instrumentation, pneumatics, hydraulics).Strength and ability to troubleshoot and problem solve.Ability to learn and comprehend Microsoft Office applications.Strong communication skills, including technically with various departments.Must be able to climb in and out of machines.Must be able to exert more than 50lbs. of force while arms are extended.Awareness, Unity, Empowerment:At Magna, we believe that a diverse workforce is critical to our success.
