Job summary

TRS Staffing Solutions in the United States seeks an Engineer focused on injection molding and automated manufacturing. You will lead design reviews, procure tooling and equipment, and mentor other mold/automation engineers.

Some travel is required to support suppliers and manufacturing sites. This role emphasizes DFMs, PFMEAs, APQP, and continuous improvement, with a strong lean and quality systems focus across ISO standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering with minimum 4 years in an injection molding facility.
  • Minimum 2 years in automated work cell environments and mold design reviews.
  • Strong CAD experience and manufacturing process analysis skills.

Responsibilities

  • Identify enhancements in molding/automation workcells for cost, quality and safety gains.
  • Review and approve new mold tooling designs with suppliers and provide specs.
  • Run off new tooling at supplier site and approve for acceptance and shipment.
  • Support APQP for new products and develop PFMEA, process flows and WIs.
  • Assist production to minimize downtime and resolve issues quickly.
  • Contribute to product design with DFM, functionality and aesthetics in mind.
  • Support Quality and Environmental Management Systems.
  • Lead validation trials and feasibility studies for process performance.
  • Develop tool specifications, new processes and training procedures.
  • Apply root cause analysis for downtime and customer complaints with permanent corrective actions.
  • Champion scrap reduction and lean manufacturing in area of responsibility.
  • Work toward facility goals and comply with ISO standards and safety guidelines.

Job description

Responsible for special projects and related engineering assistance in support of Injection Molding and Automated manufacturing operations. Leads design reviews, development and procurement of molding/automation equipment and tooling. Provides direction and development other mold and automation engineers. Some travel may be required.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Identify and pursue potential enhancements in new or existing molding/automation workcells that would result in cost savings, quality, safety, and ergonomic improvements. Troubleshoot quality and processing concerns on new tooling and equipment, then implement correction action.
  • Reviewing and approving new mold tooling designs with suppliers and providing specifications to suppliers to meet our equipment and manufacturing requirements.
  • Run off new tooling and equipment at supplier location, approving for acceptance and shipping. Inspect and verify incoming tooling and equipment to ensure they meet original build specifications.
  • Supports APQP development for new products, completing project launch and tracking systems tasks as assigned by programs. Including development of PFMEA's, Process Flows and BTO Work Instructions.
  • Must actively support production, resolving issues as they arise, to minimize downtime.
  • Contribute to product design during the development stage to ensure Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principals, customer functional, and aesthetic requirements are considered.
  • Supports the Quality and Environmental Management Systems.
  • Leads validation trials, feasibility studies, design tests for performance of processes and materials.

  • Utilizes disciplined and proven problem-solving techniques to determine root cause analysis for equipment downtime and customer complaints and develops permanent corrective actions.
  • Champions scrap reduction activities in assigned area of responsibility. Supports, contributes, and demonstrates lean manufacturing principles in work area.
  • Continuously works toward achieving goals and measurables of the facility.
  • Complies with policies, procedures, and facility standards in ISO14001, ISO45001, IATF 16949, including safety and environmental guidelines.
  • Required to be on call and responsive to production support needs of the facility
  • May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other than those specified in this description
Education and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering discipline with minimum 4 years directly related experience in an injection molding manufacturing facility or substantial injection molding experience with proven capabilities.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Automated work cell environment and mold design review and approvals.
  • CAD software experience (AutoCAD, SolidWorks)
  • Ability to analyze equipment and processes in an industrial environment
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel, as necessary

  • Must wear proper personal protection equipment while on manufacturing floor
  • Travel to manufacturing facilities or customer locations when required
  • Equipment used requires proper training on the potential for and avoidance of injury
