Job summary

Virginia Oncology Associates in Newport News is seeking an Oncology RN to join our cancer care team. You will administer chemotherapy, hydration, and other medications under the direction of a physician and help monitor patient responses throughout treatment.

Requires graduation from an accredited nursing program with an RN license; BSN preferred. Oncology experience is strongly preferred. You may travel between offices as needed to support patient care in a multi-site practice.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited nursing program; RN license required.
• Oncology experience preferred and BCLS certification required.
• BSN preferred and OCN certification optional.
• Willing to travel between offices as needed.

Responsibilities

• Administers chemotherapy, hydration, and other medications under physician supervision.
• Assesses and monitors therapy, noting changes and responding accordingly.
• Performs venipuncture and maintains central venous access devices.
• Maintains patient flow and documents all elements of care.
• Triage calls and communicates with physicians and support staff.
• Assesses patient and family needs and coordinates care.

Compensation Range

$31.85 - $64.75. Actual pay is determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs.

Responsibilities

• Administers chemotherapy, hydration, and other medications under the direction and supervision of a physician
• Assesses and monitors therapy of patients using appropriate technical skills under the direction and supervision of a physician
• Assesses patients for changes in condition, including but not limited to abnormal labs, x-rays, scans and drug reactions. Initiates appropriate action.
• Performs venipuncture, accesses implanted ports and maintains central venous access devices and alternate delivering systems
• Maintains efficient and appropriate patient flow
• Phone triage as assigned
• Documents all elements of care
• Serves as a resource to the Medical Assistants
• Communicates all pertinent information and any interventions to the physician or advanced practice provider
• Assesses patient and family needs

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education required; BSN preferred
• Oncology experience strongly preferred
• Current RN state license required
• Current BCLS certification required
• OCN certification preferred
• Must be willing to travel between offices as needed
