Job description

Overview

PRN Registered Nurse position in Pueblo, Colorado. Salary range $34.00-$45.00 per hour. Pay based on factors such as education, experience, certification. Nurses with OCN certification eligible for incentive pay after 90 days or upon certification.

Responsibilities
  • Administers chemotherapy, hydration and other medications under physician supervision.
  • Maintains knowledge of drug reimbursement procedures and completes chemotherapy charge forms.
  • Ensures pre‑authorization and appropriate consent forms before administering therapies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of ambulatory infusion pump use, maintenance, cleaning and documentation.
  • Facilitates dose modification by assessing patient and labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician for dosage modifications and symptom management.
  • Performs venipuncture, accesses implanted ports and maintains central line catheter devices.
  • Administers all medications using correct product, dosage, route, time and technique.
  • Displays appropriate technical skills for chemotherapy and medication administration, including venipuncture, central line access, infusion devices, programming portable infusion pumps and providing instruction to patient or caregiver on home pump use.
  • Documents nursing assessments, patient teaching, fluid and medication administration in patient chart.
  • Communicates all pertinent information and interventions to physician.
Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred.
  • RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Must maintain continuing education requirements.

Environment

Work environment characteristics representative of the essential functions of this job. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations and conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment.

Physical Requirements

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye–hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods; occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal range.
