Job summary

Cancer Care Northwest in the Inland Northwest is seeking a qualified registered nurse to provide professional nursing care for patients under physician supervision. The role requires knowledge of age-specific differences and adherence to quality initiatives and compliance program.

You will administer chemotherapy, biotherapy, hydration, assess patient data, manage infusion pumps, venipuncture, port access, dosage modifications, triage calls, and cover satellite offices as needed.

Qualifications

  • Be a graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred.
  • Have current RN state license with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state.
  • Have current BCLS certification.
  • Experience and knowledge of the purpose and use of medications in the treatment of cancer.
  • Have current or pending Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification within one year of employment.
  • Have current or pending Oncology Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Administers chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, hydration and other medications under the direction and supervision of a physician or nurse practitioner.
  • Assesses and records patient data pre and post infusion therapy as indicated per protocol, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, medication changes.
  • Assesses patients for changes in condition.
  • Maintains knowledge of reimbursement procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of ambulatory infusion pump use and maintenance, cleaning pumps after use, and proper documentation of pump usage.
  • Facilitates dose modification by assessing patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting providers regarding dosage modifications, problems and symptom management.
  • Performs venipuncture, accesses implanted ports and maintains central lines catheter devices.
  • Administers all medications using correct medication, dosage/amount, route, time and technique.
  • Displays appropriate technical skills for the administration of chemotherapy, biotherapy and other medications.
  • Programs portable infusion pumps for continuous drug delivery and provides instruction to the patient and/or caregiver in the use of the pump at home.
  • Triages patient phone calls as needed.
  • Manages patient medication refill requests from the pharmacy.
  • Provides nursing coverage for the satellite offices as needed.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Performs all other duties/responsibilities as necessary or assigned.
