Job summary

New England Life Care (NELC) is seeking an Infusion Nurse to provide direct home infusion care to patients in the Scarborough, ME area. The role requires a nursing license, BLS, and strong patient-focused skills to support our mission-driven nonprofit organization.

The ideal candidate will have 2+ years in acute care and familiarity with home infusion therapy, with weekend differential for on-call or weekend shifts. Competitive benefits accompany this full-time position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Associates Degree in Nursing or diploma with equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years acute care experience.
  • R.N. license in good standing in the state(s) where providing care / services.
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • HIPAA knowledge and privacy awareness preferred.
  • Familiarity with Joint Commission accreditation processes a plus.
  • Excellent patient assessment skills.
  • Experience with home infusion therapy a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately performs initial and ongoing patient assessments of home infusion therapy patients.
  • Provides comprehensive initial and ongoing patient and caregiver education for home infusion therapy.
  • Demonstrates competency in aseptic administration and monitoring of all therapy types provided by NELC.
  • Communicates changes in patient status to infusion and reimbursement teams in writing and verbally.
  • Documents all patient assessments and communications in the patient’s record.
  • Inserts, maintains, troubleshoots, and discontinues infusion access as appropriate.
  • Maintains competency in infusion equipment and supplies.
  • Participates in case conferences as needed.
  • On-call rotation for Nursing department.

New England Life Care currently has an opening for an Infusion Nurse that will service patients in the area surrounding Mechanic Falls, Maine. The ideal candidate for this position has excellent interpersonal skills, a strong desire to care for patients, and a flexible schedule. A shift differential will be paid for any weekend shifts.

Job Summary:

The person in this position is responsible for the provision of direct patient care to home infusion therapy patients in conjunction with physician orders. Establishes, implements, and revises, as needed, a plan of treatment that meets each patient’s specific needs and follows Joint Commission, federal and state regulations, reimbursement guidelines and NELC policies and procedures.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Accurately performs initial and ongoing patient assessments of home infusion therapy patients.
  • Provides comprehensive initial and ongoing patient and caregiver education relating to the prescribed home infusion therapy.
  • Demonstrates competency in the aseptic administration and monitoring of all therapy types provided by NELC.
  • Effectively communicates changes in patient status to appropriate members of infusion and reimbursement teams verbally and in writing (progress notes, e-mail, etc.) in a timely manner.
  • Comprehensively documents all patient assessments and communication with patients, caregivers, and other members of the healthcare team in each patient’s record.
  • Inserts, maintains / troubleshoots, and discontinues (as appropriate) all types of infusion access according to NELC policies and procedures.
  • Maintains and demonstrates competency in the use and troubleshooting of infusion equipment and supplies.
  • Participates in case conferences as needed.
  • Participation in On Call rotation for Nursing department.

Qualifications & Skills That Contribute to Success

  • Bachelor’s or Associates Degree in Nursing or diploma with equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years acute care experience.
  • Previous Home Infusion Therapy experience preferred.
  • R.N. license in good standing in the state(s) where providing care / services
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Excellent driving record.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA Privacy and Security Regulations preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Joint Commission accreditation process and overall JC standards preferred.
  • Excellent patient assessment skills required.
  • Working / practical knowledge of home infusion therapy administration / equipment use preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all customers and members of the healthcare team verbally and in writing.
  • Good interpersonal skills required.
  • Good organizational skills required.
  • Ability to work independently as well as being a part of a team.
  • Working / practical knowledge of microcomputer systems including patient documentation systems, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Dependability in attendance and job performance required.
