Job summary

Freeport‑McMoRan is seeking an Information Technology technician to set up and install PCs, phones, networking gear, and peripherals at the Chino copper mine in New Mexico. The role emphasizes safety, documentation, and supporting site operations.

You will troubleshoot voice, network, and PC issues, participate in safety programs, and handle routine and non-standard scheduling including overtime as needed. High school diploma or equivalent, plus certifications preferred.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of experience in computer/electronic systems hardware/software troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair.
• Demonstrated technical expertise in the installation, repair, and maintenance of PC hardware, software, printers, fax machines, and telephone handsets.
• Ability to effectively analyze, troubleshoot, and diagnose issues with computers, peripherals, cellular, and voice systems.
• Basic understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and technology, including wireless networking equipment.
• Basic knowledge of voice systems (PBX/VoIP).
• Skill in effective communication, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, and both scheduled and unscheduled overtime as business dictates.
• Customer‑service orientation and good organizational skills.
• Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.

Responsibilities

Where You Will Work
Chino is an open‑pit copper mining complex located 15 miles from Silver City, New Mexico. The operation includes a 36,000‑metric‑ton‑per‑day concentrator that produces copper and a 150‑million‑pound‑per‑year solvent extraction/electrowinning plant that produces copper cathodes from run‑of‑mine leaching. The surrounding community offers restaurants, arts, entertainment, festivals, and plenty of amenities.

What You Will Do

What We Offer You

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $28.00 - $38.00 per hour. This reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits, or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills, and other job‑related factors. The role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.
