Job summary

fab2 is seeking an Infrastructure and Site Reliability Intern for the summer term in Austin, TX. You will design, build, deploy, and manage the on-prem backend infrastructure powering our semiconductor fab, with a philosophy focused on bare-metal Linux and minimal cloud usage.

This broad role covers backend services, tooling, and reliability work. A portfolio of real projects is required to apply, showcasing engineering excellence and fast iteration.

Qualifications

• Pursuing BS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or demonstrated exceptional software engineering skill.
• Strong programming in Rust and Go or other systems languages.
• Solid Linux, networking, and distributed systems knowledge.
• Experience building or maintaining non-trivial infrastructure, automation, or tooling.
• Interest in systems reliability, observability, infrastructure automation, or performance optimization.

Responsibilities

• Build and evolve infrastructure-as-code tooling for complex, multi-environment deployments.
• Help manage on-premises servers for high availability and efficient resource use.
• Monitor and maintain system performance across diverse production workloads.
• Design and refine alerting systems to catch issues before users are affected.
• Build automation to reduce toil and improve operational efficiency.
• Implement secure secret management.
• Debug production issues across the stack.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to deliver robust, scalable infrastructure.
