Job summary

Metro is seeking an Infrastructure & Operations Manager to lead 14 staff across systems administration and help desk, delivering reliable and secure technology for the Portland region.

You will shape a resilient infrastructure, champion modern practices like code-driven operations and observability, and guide AI adoption within the team while partnering with cybersecurity and business stakeholders. Hybrid telework with Oregon/Washington residents preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Five (5) years of experience leading or supervising technical staff or teams in IT infrastructure or IT operations.
• Two (2) years of experience managing IT infrastructure projects or initiatives (migrations, consolidations, upgrades, or implementations).
• Any combination of education, professional, volunteer and lived experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the classification duties.

Responsibilities

• Lead Metro's Systems and Support teams (14 staff) through two direct-report supervisors.
• Keep Metro's systems dependable and secure; manage on-call and major incidents.
• Strengthen resilience and availability including backup and disaster recovery.
• Mature IT service management with change, incident, and problem processes.
• Introduce modern practices: infrastructure as code, observability, and shared documentation.
• Own lifecycle and architecture decisions for Metro's systems (modernize/consolidate/migrate/retire).
• Guide practical AI adoption in operations and build team skills.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity leadership to meet security needs.
• Translate technology decisions across departments and venues for trust and clarity.
• Develop and manage the infrastructure and operations budget; set vendor/contracting strategy.
• Ensure capacity stays ahead of demand; decide what to own vs. outsource and how to shift mix.
• Own major infrastructure initiatives and capital investments; deliver value and accountability.
