Job summary

ACL Digital seeks an Infrastructure Coordinator to oversee network and telecom projects from initiation to closure, coordinating internal teams and external vendors. This role defines scope, milestones, and resources, and drives RFPs and vendor contracts to ensure quality implementations.

The position requires 5+ years in technical project management, familiarity with blueprints/AutoCAD, and knowledge of BCSI standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.
  • Progressive work experience in network infrastructure and structured cabling with PM and troubleshooting.
  • Minimum of 5 years technical project management experience.
  • Current RCDD desired; RCDD LAN Specialist/Installer experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with blueprints, construction documentation and AutoCAD.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of BCSI Standards.
  • Knowledge of cabling structures including fiber, copper, and coaxial.
  • Ortronics certification preferred.
  • Experience with CATV, CCTV, LAN, VOIP, and Audio Video systems.
  • ITIL and PMP certifications are a plus.
  • Licensed electrician is a plus.

Responsibilities

Job description

The Infrastructure Coordinator is responsible for complete execution of all network and telecommunication projects from initiation to closure. This position will define initial project scope and resources both internal to NU and external vendor resources, milestones and deadlines in coordination with the functional areas, Information Services technical groups as well as external vendors. The IPM will develop and initiate request for proposals to vendors in a process oriented and repeatable environment working closely with technical colleagues. The IPM will manage all submitted vendor RFPs and award vendor contracts to ensure successful and quality implementation of network and telecommunication projects based on specific standards and best practices and design specifications. The IPM directs external vendors on execution of design specifications, implementation and successful deployment of network and telecommunications technologies. This includes working internally with the facilities department, academic and administrative departments on renovations and new construction of network and telecommunications requirements. Also included would be technology refresh and implementation of new technologies. This individual will also educate external vendors on University standards, quality of service and best practices and documentation standards. This individual is responsible for multiple projects at any one given time.

To ensure that essential services are provided to the university community, the employee will be required to work outside regular working hours and on some university holidays.

1. Qualifications

Provide the minimum education, experience, and skills required to perform the job successfully.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred. Higher Education experience is a plus.
  • Progressive work experience in network infrastructure, structured cable, with strong project management and troubleshooting; hands‑on experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years technical project management experience.
  • Current RCDD desired, Inactive RCDD or RCDD LAN Specialist, Installer, Technician required.
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent problem solving and decision‑making skills.
  • Familiarity with blueprints, construction documentation and AutoCad
  • Proven ability to document. Attention to detail essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage resources against priority projects, develop and manage project and implementation plans, and identify and fill resource gaps with internal and external resources.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of BCSI Standards.
  • Any combination of the following is a plus, though not required:
  • Construction or related field experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of cabling structures including fiber optic, copper, and coaxial.
  • Manufacturer certified by Ortronics.
  • Cable and or Systems experience with: CATV, CCTV, LAN, VOIP, and Audio Video.
  • McCormick estimating system or similar system experience
  • ITIL and PMP certifications
  • Licensed electrician

Management and coordination of Cabling Infrastructure Initiatives and Vendors
  • Perform exact design of structured cabling systems required based on project requirements, including writing technical specifications based on building codes.
  • Appoint and manage vendor/subcontractor projects such as installation and servicing cable (copper, coaxial, fiber‑optic), optical, telecommunications and T1 networks as well as enterprise‑wide, student residential and cabling networks such as NUnet, ResNet and HuskyCable.
  • Appoint and manage all cabling contractors to execute, move, add, and modify work.
  • Responsible for estimating and budgeting of cable infrastructure projects as well as structured cabling bid and specification analysis.
  • Work with Engineering and Operations departments to assess and develop plans and designs for network environment to ensure continued operations and high stability and reliability is maintained.
  • Prepare appropriate documentation and RFP packages.
  • Review job reports constantly to track labor, material, and over‑all job progress and status.
  • Ensure quality of inventory and timely procurement and delivery of materials to jobsite.
  • Establish and maintain long‑term customer relationships by consistently meeting expectations and offering innovative solutions.
  • Coordinate installations of new networks and extensions of current network.
  • Facilitate construction related technology relocation activities with external vendors, IS Customer Services and departmental customer contact
  • Keep appropriate individuals informed of all installation and/or troubleshooting activities by updating service request records and trouble tickets in a timely manner.
  • Ensure NUnet, IEEE Ethernet and TIA/EIA 568B standards are met.

Project Management

Helps define initial project scope and resources needed. Works with IT specialists, IT management and business unit staff ensuring necessary resources including staff remain committed to the project. Monitors the overall execution of a project from initiation to project closure. These responsibilities include: overall coordination, status reporting and assuring success as measured by on‑time delivery, within budget allocation, meeting quality standards and customer satisfaction requirements of technology related projects. Performs risk evaluations across projects in order to ensure the client knows the difference between what is asked for and what is possible, given time, materials and resources. Facilitates the resolution of issues and escalates to owning manager as required and senior management if necessary. Submits change requests for proposed project and service changes. A critical component is the need to identify related or interfacing projects and initiatives to ensure integration of project to support joint business needs.

Mentors teams and individuals in the execution of various processes, tools and artifact generation in support of adoption of project management best practices. Monitors and reports on teams' adherence to process. Proactively identifies, communicates and implements process improvements to enhance overall effectiveness
