Job summary

Central Gulf Industrial Alliance seeks a Soft Craft Foreman to supervise and coordinate daily soft craft activities on industrial construction, maintenance, and turnaround projects. You will oversee scaffolding, insulation, painting/coatings, fireproofing, and cleaning crews to ensure safe, efficient, and quality work.

The role requires 5+ years of industrial soft craft experience with supervisory responsibilities and the ability to read drawings and procedures.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of industrial soft craft experience with progressive supervisory experience.
• Minimum 2–3 years of foreman or lead experience preferred.
• Experience in chemical, petrochemical, refinery, power, LNG, manufacturing, or other heavy industrial facilities preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, work packages, and procedures.
• Knowledge of OSHA and industrial safety requirements.
• Strong leadership and crew-management skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with employees, clients, subcontractors, and project management.
• Basic computer skills and ability to complete electronic reports and documentation.

Responsibilities

The Soft Craft Foreman is responsible for the day-to-day supervision, coordination, and execution of soft craft activities on industrial construction, maintenance, and turnaround projects. This position will oversee crews performing scaffolding, insulation, painting/coatings, fireproofing, industrial cleaning, and related soft craft activities, depending on project scope.

The Soft Craft Foreman is responsible for ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, productively, and in accordance with project specifications, schedules, quality requirements, and client expectations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate daily activities of soft craft crews.
• Plan manpower requirements and assign employees to specific work areas.
• Provide daily direction and instruction to employees and subcontractors.
• Coordinate work activities with Operations, Maintenance, Construction, HSE, QA/QC, and other craft disciplines.
• Review drawings, work packages, specifications, and job requirements.
• Ensure crews understand the scope of work, schedule, productivity expectations, and quality requirements.
• Monitor daily productivity and make adjustments to manpower and work assignments as needed.
• Ensure materials, tools, equipment, and access requirements are available before work begins.
• Coordinate scaffold erection, modification, inspection, and dismantling activities when applicable.
• Oversee insulation installation and removal, including piping, vessels, equipment, and other industrial systems.
• Supervise industrial painting and coating activities, including surface preparation and application requirements.
• Coordinate fireproofing activities when included in project scope.
• Oversee industrial cleaning and related soft craft activities.
• Ensure proper housekeeping and material storage within assigned work areas.
• Monitor work progress against the project schedule and communicate delays or potential issues to supervision.
• Conduct daily toolbox meetings and job briefings.
• Ensure employees follow all site safety rules, OSHA requirements, client procedures, and company policies.
• Enforce proper use of PPE, fall protection, respiratory protection, scaffolding requirements, and other applicable safety controls.
• Stop work when unsafe conditions or unacceptable work practices are identified.
• Participate in JSA/JHA development and review.
• Ensure required permits are obtained before work begins.
• Coordinate with HSE personnel regarding safety concerns, incidents, near misses, and corrective actions.
• Monitor the quality of completed work and ensure deficiencies are corrected.
• Work closely with QA/QC personnel to ensure work meets project specifications.
• Maintain accurate daily manpower, production, material, and progress reports.
• Track employee hours and provide information required for timekeeping and payroll.
• Monitor overtime and manpower utilization.
• Identify additional material, equipment, and manpower needs.
• Communicate field changes, RFIs, and potential change-order work to project management.
• Assist with estimating labor and material requirements for additional work.
• Participate in client and contractor coordination meetings as required.
• Assist with punch-list completion and project closeout.
• Mentor and develop journeyman, apprentices, and entry-level employees.
• Promote teamwork, accountability, productivity, and a positive work environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Soft Craft Responsibilities

Depending on project scope, the Foreman may oversee one or more of the following:

Scaffolding

• Scaffold erection, modification, dismantling, and tagging.
• Verify scaffold crews follow approved designs and site requirements.
• Ensure scaffold inspections are completed as required.
• Monitor fall protection and access requirements.

Insulation

• Removal and installation of insulation systems.
• Insulation of piping, vessels, tanks, exchangers, and equipment.
• Installation of jacketing and weatherproofing systems.
• Ensure materials and installation methods meet specifications.

Painting & Coatings

• Surface preparation, abrasive blasting, power-tool cleaning, and coating application.
• Verify environmental and surface conditions meet coating requirements.
• Coordinate coating crews and equipment.
• Monitor production and quality requirements.

Fireproofing

• Coordinate preparation and application of fireproofing materials.
• Ensure proper thickness, application, curing, and repair requirements are followed.
• Coordinate pressure washing, vacuuming, chemical cleaning, tank cleaning, and general industrial cleaning activities as applicable.
• Ensure appropriate PPE, respiratory protection, containment, and environmental controls are used.

Safety Responsibilities

• Lead by example and maintain a strong safety culture.
• Ensure all employees understand and follow site-specific safety requirements.
• Verify employees are properly trained and qualified for assigned work.
• Enforce LOTO, confined-space, hot-work, fall-protection, and other applicable procedures.
• Conduct or participate in daily toolbox talks.
• Report injuries, near misses, unsafe conditions, and environmental incidents immediately.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas.
• Ensure equipment and tools are inspected before use.
