Job description

Overview

IT Specialist (APPSW) Infrastructure Engineer positions are being filled through the Office of Personnel Management's delegated Direct Hire Authority and are open to all U.S. citizens. Selections made under this bulletin will be processed as new appointments to the civil service. Current civil service employees will receive new appointments under this authority. Veterans Preference and the “Rule of Many” do not apply.

Duties and Responsibilities

This announcement serves as public notice. Applications submitted will be placed into a pool and remain on file for selection as positions become available, up to six months after the closing date. Applicants may not receive referral status notifications until the full six‑month eligibility period has elapsed. Positions filled from this pool will be placed where artificial intelligence duties constitute the majority of the work performed.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of a wide range of multi‑platform software/hardware products and services in a multi‑platform software development environment.
  • Installing, configuring, and supporting various operating systems.
  • Analyzing software/hardware problems and formulating solutions.
  • Installing, configuring, and maintaining Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager.
  • Installing, configuring, and maintaining Windows Server Update Services.
  • Coordinating technical tasks with fellow employees and/or vendors.
  • Organizing joint inter‑component efforts.
  • Communicating orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrating IT experience, which may be paid or unpaid, or through specific intensive training such as IT certification.

To qualify for the 2210 IT Specialist series, applicants must demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Attention to Detail – Thoroughness when performing work and conscientiousness about attending to detail.
  • Customer Service – Works with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
  • Oral Communication – Expresses information effectively, listens, attends to non‑verbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving – Identifies problems, determines accuracy and relevance of information, uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and makes recommendations.
  • Minimum Qualifications – Grade 13; at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS‑12 level, including supporting Windows Server infrastructure, expertise in Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager, and recommending innovative solutions. This specialized experience is required and must be explicitly documented in the resume.

Additional selections may be made for this vacancy six months from the closing date. This direct hire announcement may be used to fill the same or similar positions in another office. Some positions are bargaining‑unit positions represented by the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE).
