Job summary

TEKsystems is seeking a Linux Infrastructure Operations Engineer to support on-prem, AWS, and Kubernetes (EKS) environments. The role focuses on Linux administration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and automation across a hybrid setup in Foster City, CA.

The engineer will act as the first line of support for infrastructure incidents, monitor health, perform OS upgrades, and contribute to platform engineering and automation initiatives using SaltStack or Ansible. AWS and EKS experience is required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Serve as first contact for Linux infrastructure incidents across servers, storage, memory, networking, and performance.
• Monitor dashboards and alerts to identify and resolve issues proactively.
• Troubleshoot Linux systems via logs, diagnostics, and root cause analysis.
• Perform OS upgrades, patching, migrations, and health checks.
• Support large-scale Linux environments (Red Hat and Ubuntu).
• Maintain core services like DNS, Vault, monitoring, and metrics platforms.
• Handle AWS and EKS-related alerts and host/node troubleshooting.
• Follow runbooks and document work; provide status updates.
• Support automation and configuration management initiatives using SaltStack, Ansible, or similar.
• Collaborate with platform engineering to improve reliability.

DESCRIPTION

Our client is seeking a Linux Infrastructure Operations Engineer to support critical infrastructure across on-premises, AWS, and Kubernetes (EKS) environments. This role is approximately 50% operational support and 50% platform engineering, with a strong focus on Linux administration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and infrastructure automation.

The engineer will serve as the first line of support for infrastructure-related issues, proactively monitoring system health, responding to alerts, performing OS upgrades, and maintaining core platform services. The ideal candidate will have strong Linux troubleshooting skills, experience with monitoring tools, and exposure to configuration management and automation technologies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serve as the first point of contact for Linux infrastructure incidents involving servers, storage, memory, networking, and system performance.
• Monitor dashboards and alerting platforms to identify and resolve issues proactively.
• Troubleshoot Linux systems through log analysis, diagnostics, and root cause investigation.
• Perform operating system upgrades, patching, migrations, and post-upgrade health checks.
• Support large-scale Linux environments running Red Hat and Ubuntu.
• Maintain and support core infrastructure services including DNS, HashiCorp Vault, monitoring, alerting, and metrics collection platforms.
• Respond to AWS and EKS-related alerts and assist with host and node troubleshooting.
• Follow established runbooks and operational procedures while documenting completed work and providing regular status updates.
• Support infrastructure automation and configuration management initiatives using tools such as SaltStack, Ansible, or similar technologies.
• Partner with platform engineering teams to improve operational efficiency and platform reliability.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with SaltStack, Ansible, or similar automation platforms.
• AWS and Kubernetes/EKS experience.
• Knowledge of HashiCorp Vault.
• Experience supporting enterprise monitoring platforms such as Zabbix, Grafana, Grafana Cloud, or LogicMonitor.
• Background in Platform Engineering, Infrastructure Operations, or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE).

JOB TYPE & LOCATION

This is a Contract position based out of Foster City, CA.

PAY AND BENEFITS

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
