Job summary

TechSur Solutions is seeking a Junior Infrastructure Engineer to support cloud and on‑prem infrastructure for a USCIS federal program. You will work with Linux/Windows systems, cloud services, networking, scripting, and security to maintain reliable, scalable infrastructure.

You will collaborate with senior engineers, cybersecurity teams, and developers to implement automation, monitor health, and participate in Agile ceremonies. This role offers hybrid work in Reston, VA with full benefits.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years experience in Infrastructure Engineering, Systems Administration, Cloud Engineering or related field.
• Foundational knowledge of AWS and/or Azure.
• Basic administration knowledge of Linux/Windows Server.
• Understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP/HTTPS, VPN, Firewalls, Load balancers).
• Scripting in Python/PowerShell/Bash.
• Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and tools.
• Basic knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform/CloudFormation/Ansible).
• Understanding IAM and RBAC; cyber security basics.

Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated Junior Infrastructure Engineer to support infrastructure operations, cloud environments, system administration, automation, monitoring, and technical troubleshooting for a USCIS federal program.

The ideal candidate will have foundational knowledge of Linux/Windows systems, cloud infrastructure, networking, scripting, security, and DevOps concepts. This individual will work closely with senior infrastructure engineers, developers, cybersecurity teams, and other technical stakeholders to maintain reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career infrastructure engineer who is interested in developing hands‑on experience supporting mission‑critical federal technology environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the implementation, configuration, administration, and maintenance of cloud and on‑premises infrastructure.
• Support Linux and/or Windows servers, virtual machines, storage, network components, and related infrastructure services.
• Assist senior engineers with provisioning, configuration, upgrades, patching, and ongoing maintenance of infrastructure environments.
• Monitor infrastructure availability, system performance, capacity, and health using enterprise monitoring and logging tools.
• Troubleshoot common server, operating system, network, application connectivity, and infrastructure‑related issues.
• Support cloud infrastructure services in AWS and/or Azure environments.
• Assist with infrastructure automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, or similar technologies.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps processes in collaboration with application development and engineering teams.
• Assist with containerized environments using Docker and Kubernetes/OpenShift, where applicable.
• Support identity and access management activities, including user access, permissions, service accounts, and role‑based access controls.
• Assist with vulnerability remediation, system hardening, security patches, and configuration updates in accordance with established federal and organizational security requirements.
• Participate in incident troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and resolution of infrastructure‑related issues.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, including configuration documents, SOPs, runbooks, architecture information, troubleshooting guides, and knowledge‑base articles.
• Support infrastructure changes across development, testing, staging, and production environments.
• Work with senior engineers to improve infrastructure reliability, availability, scalability, security, and operational efficiency.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, technical meetings, sprint activities, and team discussions as needed.
• Assist with production deployments and operational support activities when required.
• Escalate complex infrastructure and security issues to senior engineers and appropriate technical teams.

Required Skills

• 1-3 years of relevant experience in Infrastructure Engineering, Systems Administration, Cloud Engineering, DevOps, IT Operations, or a related technical field.
• Foundational knowledge of AWS and/or Microsoft Azure cloud services.
• Basic administration knowledge of Linux and/or Windows Server environments.
• Understanding of networking concepts, including:

• Basic understanding of Identity and Access Management (IAM) and role‑based access control.
• Understanding of general cybersecurity principles, secure configurations, patching, and vulnerability management.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
• Ability to work effectively with developers, infrastructure engineers, security teams, and other technical stakeholders.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to create and maintain clear technical documentation.

Preferred Skills

• Hands‑on experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, RDS, Route 53, or related services.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure infrastructure services.
• Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift.
• Experience with Terraform, Ansible, AWS CloudFormation, or other infrastructure automation technologies.
• Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools such as Splunk, CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, or similar.
• Understanding of DevOps/DevSecOps methodologies.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Understanding of SSL/TLS certificates, encryption, secrets management, and secure credential handling.
• Exposure to federal cybersecurity and compliance environments, including NIST, FISMA, FedRAMP, or DHS security standards.
• Previous experience supporting a federal government client, particularly DHS or USCIS, is a plus.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related technical discipline.
