OpenAI, Inc. is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and operation of systems for infrastructure cost and efficiency in San Francisco.

You will build platforms that reveal where spend goes, identify opportunities to improve utilization, and help teams plan capacity with measurable impact. You will own systems connecting compute, storage, and network usage to cost and drive data-driven decisions, all while maintaining security and reliability.

Formación

• 7+ years designing, building, and operating production software and distributed systems.
• Experience with infrastructure efficiency, cloud cost attribution, usage metering, budgeting, forecasting, or capacity management.
• Hands-on engineer who can move between architecture, implementation, debugging, and ops improvements.
• Understand compute/storage/network cost translation and tradeoffs between utilization, performance, reliability, and growth.
• Ability to work across engineering, finance, product, and leadership to translate goals into a plan.

Responsabilidades

• Define the technical direction and roadmap for infrastructure cost and efficiency systems from problem definition to operation.
• Build billing, usage metering, and cost attribution systems tying spend to resources and workloads.
• Develop data pipelines and shared data models combining cloud billing, inventory, and utilization signals.
• Build budgeting, forecasting, and capacity planning tools to anticipate demand and inform procurement.
• Identify underutilized resources and partner with teams to deliver measurable improvements while preserving reliability.
• Create APIs, reporting tools, and automated controls to help teams understand consumption and budgets.
• Provide technical leadership across teams, mentor engineers, and ensure correctness, scalability, and production behavior.
