Job Description

Infrastructure Architect — Senior

Position Description

CGI Federal is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Architect to serve as a fully qualified technical authority on a complex hybrid IT managed services engagement supporting a U.S. federal government client. In this role, you will design and govern the structure and behavior of a multi enclave technology infrastructure spanning on premises compute and storage, colocation datacenter operations, and cloud hosted platforms. You will lead hardware lifecycle planning, drive workload consolidation and right sizing initiatives, design network architecture improvements, and produce the authoritative infrastructure documentation that governs how the environment is built, operated, and evolved. You will work independently, mentor engineers, and serve as the infrastructure technical resource across the delivery team. If you bring deep, production proven infrastructure architecture expertise and want to apply it in a high impact federal IT environment, this role is for you.

This position is located in our client site in Chantilly, VA office as well as our office in Fairfax, VA. No remote options are available

Your future duties and responsibilities
  • Design, document, and govern the technology infrastructure architecture for a complex hybrid environment spanning on premises compute and storage clusters, colocation datacenter infrastructure, and Government authorized cloud platforms across physically separated security enclaves.
  • Lead hardware lifecycle planning and remediation activities, including assessment of aging hardware posture, development of replacement roadmaps, and coordination of procurement and installation activities in accordance with Government asset lifecycle management requirements.
  • Lead workload consolidation and right sizing initiatives across a large virtual machine environment, applying memory utilization, compute demand, enclave separation requirements, and storage consumption as evaluation criteria; develop and execute consolidation plans that achieve measurable footprint reduction.
  • Design and govern network architecture across a predominantly virtual network environment, including software defined networking, virtual switches and VLANs, virtual firewalls, load balancers, DNS, DHCP, and IP address management, with explicit attention to enclave boundary constraints and physical separation requirements.
  • Lead active storage migration initiatives, including transitions to vSAN based platforms, developing migration plans, validating configurations, and ensuring continuity of operations throughout the migration lifecycle.
  • Evaluate and recommend the appropriate mix of on premises, cloud native, and hybrid architectural approaches to achieve a right sized environment, with explicit consideration of program specific physical testing dependencies, enclave boundary constraints, and total cost of ownership.
  • Develop and maintain authoritative infrastructure architecture documentation, including current state assessments, target state designs, hardware lifecycle gap analyses, network diagrams, dependency maps, and decision records, in Government approved repositories and transferable formats
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in infrastructure architecture, with demonstrated experience designing and governing hybrid on premises and cloud hosted infrastructure in production federal IT environments.
  • In depth knowledge of infrastructure architecture disciplines, including hardware configuration, compute and storage resource pools, network architecture, infrastructure applications, performance and resilience design, and backup and recovery.
  • Demonstrated experience with VMware virtualization platforms, including vSphere, vSAN, and VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), in enterprise datacenter environments, including experience leading storage migrations to vSAN based platforms.
  • Proficiency in virtual network architecture, including software defined networking, virtual switches and VLANs, virtual firewalls, load balancers, DNS, DHCP, and IP address management in multi enclave environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading hardware lifecycle planning and remediation activities, including assessment of aging hardware posture and development of replacement roadmaps.
  • Working knowledge of federal cybersecurity frameworks including NIST SP 800 53, RMF, and ATO processes, with experience designing infrastructure architectures that satisfy authorization requirements.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance; demonstrated ability to resolve a wide range of complex infrastructure architecture problems in creative and effective ways.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce clear, authoritative architecture documentation and present findings to both technical and non technical audiences.
  • Based on client requirements, U.S. citizenship is required.
Desired qualifications/non essential skills required
  • Experience with workload consolidation analysis in large virtual machine environments, including utilization assessment, dependency mapping, and consolidation plan development.
  • Familiarity with colocation datacenter operations, including physical infrastructure management, power and cooling considerations, and cross connect provisioning.
  • Experience evaluating and recommending hybrid architectural approaches, including on premises, cloud native, and edge testing configurations, with explicit consideration of program specific physical testing dependencies.
  • Familiarity with Zero Trust architecture principles and the CISA Zero Trust Maturity Model, with experience mapping infrastructure design decisions to Zero Trust pillar objectives.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as SolarWinds or equivalent, including infrastructure health monitoring and alerting configuration.
  • Experience with FinOps principles and total cost of ownership modeling in hybrid infrastructure environments.
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) — Data Center Virtualization or equivalent certification.
  • Experience in DoD or federal health IT environments with multi enclave network architectures.
