Information Technology Technician

Job Summary
Under general supervision, supports and maintains computer and network operations at all Library facilities. Provides technical support for new and existing technology. Assists in the maintenance and use of both public and staff computer equipment of various types.
Responsibilities
- Provide excellent customer service to enhance the user experience while demonstrating a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude towards all external and internal customers.
- Support of applications and computers running in Windows11, Windows server, Linux and Apple MAC environments.
- Provide LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi support, and monitor network systems and software including the integrated library system.
- Provide support for virtual infrastructure including Office 365, Microsoft Azure, Hyper V, Active Directory, Group policy and DNS/DHCP.
- Identify, troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve problems with computers, printers and other computer and network equipment.
- Use and configure network components including routers, switches, and servers.
- Install hardware, software and software updates.
- Arrange for repair or replacement of damaged hardware.
- Provide effective, pleasant and timely help desk support to Library staff and patrons.
- Organize, maintain, and store PC’s and related equipment, parts, and software.
- Assist in various computer-related projects as assigned.
- Prepare equipment for pickup or shipping.
- Provide one on one and group instruction in the use of software and basic computer maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Monitor and adjust VOIP telephone systems.
- Maintain close working relationship with library staff.
- Self-trains in order to acquire in-depth knowledge of library supported software and equipment.
- Attends meetings and training as needed to remain current with changing technology.
- Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality as required.
- Other duties as requested or assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelors or associates degree in computer or management information science highly desired.
- Minimum 2 years’ in-person work experience in computers and/or network technical support is required.
- Prior library experience helpful.
- Must have a valid drivers’ license with an acceptable motor vehicle record, have continuous insurability on the library’s insurance, and have reliable transportation for travel between Library facilities and drive a library vehicle when needed.
- Prior experience with Windows desktop and Server operating systems needed.
- Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), and A+ experience desirable.
- Working knowledge of virtualization, Office 365, Microsoft Azure, and Hyper V.
- Working experience in the use and configuration of network components including routers, switches and servers.
- Able to make effective decisions based on sound judgment, technical knowledge, analytical reasoning ability, and resourcefulness.
- Must have a positive attitude and willingness to accept, adapt, and positively handle change and uncertainty, including learning new technology.

- Must have the ability to maintain composure when responding to a variety of problems and unpredictable circumstances as applicable.
- Must be able to learn and carry out the responsibilities of the assigned position.
- Must be able to effectively speak, listen, read (including cursive), and write in English.
- Able to work days, some evenings, weekends, and respond to IT emergency calls as needed.
- Must have regular and predictable attendance as required. This job is expected to be physically in the office, but It is possible to work remotely at times.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday and able to sit for extended period of time.
- Must have sufficient clarity of speech and hearing which permits satisfactory communication with others, as well as respond effectively to alarms and intercom announcements.
- Must have manual dexterity sufficient to use tools for computer maintenance, to operate library equipment, and perform general typing and keyboard operation as needed for the position.
- Must have sufficient visual acuity to distinguish letters, words, and numbers, as well as work with and view software and hardware, and a wide variety of materials, in both print and electronic format as needed for the position.
- Must be able to work in areas with moderate noise levels, with odors including cleaners and disinfectants, and in areas that may contain dust or other possible allergens.
- Must be able to use elevator.
- Must be able to lift materials, manipulate boxes and computer equipment that could weigh up to 75+ pounds and able to run cables and other hardware behind and under furniture.
